You could spend 1 BP to increase your kingdom's Loyalty or Stability by 1, but that benefit would only be for a month. That's a more handy option when you're dealing with existing problems within the kingdom which will get worse if you don't make regular checks. You might as well save the 1 BP and use it next month.

Agreed.

Or, maybe we can go the corrupt route and steal money from the kingdom and line our own pockets?

You can, but that probably won't work out great for Stability or Loyalty. Plus you have to get poor Oleg on board, since he's the one tracking where all the money goes.

Yes - I'm absolutely certain that would in no way come back to bite you in the ass. And that the rest of the PCs would not beat Leonis into a pulp if he tried something of the kind Very Happy

I gave it a few days in case someone else posts but, that not being the case, it's time to move on to the fun part - making BP.

Roll 7 Economy checks. The first 6 are for selling things in your settlements (each successful one netting you 8 BP) and the last one is for your basic economy (which you currently have a +71 on). Since the DC is 73, any rolls other than a 1 succeed.

Nope. A 20 is just an auto-success, like a 1 is an auto-failure.

Anyway, even with that 1, you still make 40 BP from the first 5 successful checks, and the 19 on the last roll means a total of 90 on the Economy check, or another 18 BP. Plus you're getting 6 BP from the trade with Pitax, which gives you a whopping 65 BP at the start of next month. You'll have a lot of decisions to make about how to spend your money.

PostSubject: Next month   Wed Dec 07, 2011 9:43 am

I figured we might as well get started on the kingdom management for the next month, i.e. the month in which the Thuranni attack occurs, as well as your meeting with the Green King. Things should get interesting now, since you have a lot of money to spend and no one fixed thing to spend on.

Here are the kingdom stats for the start of the month:

Quote :
Current scores: Economy +71, Loyalty +65, Stability +74 (73), Unrest 0, Kingdom size = 50; Command DC 73; Consumption = 2; Treasury = 65 BP

Lakeshore statistics: Base Value = 1200 gp; Defense Modifier +10; Districts = 1; contains Barracks, Brothel, Caster's Tower, Castle, Dump, Exotic Craftsman (x2), Garrison, Granary, Inn, Jail, Noble Villa, Park, Phiarlan Enclave, Smith, Town Hall and Houses (x4); 5 minor items, 2 medium items

Castle in forest: Base Value = 200 gp; Defense Modifier +8; Districts = 1; contains Caster's Tower, Castle; 3 minor items, 2 medium items

Hunter's Horn statistics: Base Value = 200 gp; Defense Modifier +0; Districts = 1; contains Caster's Tower, Graveyard and Temple; 2 medium items, 5 minor items

Olegton statistics: Base Value = 700 gp; Defense Modifier +0; Districts = 1; contains Caster's Tower, Stable, Shrine, and House (x2); 4 minor items, 2 medium items

Tatzlford statistics: Base Value = 700 gp; Defense Modifier +0; Districts = 1; contains Brewery, Caster's Tower, Shrine, Smith, Tavern and House (x3); 2 medium items, 4 minor items

Varnhold city statistics: Base Value = 2200 gp; Defense Modifier +0; Districts = 1; contains Brewery, Brothel, Caster's Tower, Exotic Craftsman, Garrison, Granary, Graveyard, Inn, Jail, Smith, Tannery, Temple, Tradesmen (x3), and Houses (x8); 6 minor items, 2 medium items

The Thuranni ambush occurs early in the month and has the following mechanical effects:

PCs obtain Deneith mercenaries to guard all of their councilors: BP -10, Loyalty +1
PCs defeat Thuranni ambush: Stability +2

Now for the basic stuff. Roll me a Stability check, please.

I thought there was a certain set of buildings we wanted to build so we increase our BP by a crap load. Basically, didn't we have a plan?

That was to build casters towers in all the settlements that didn't have them. Which we just did.

I forget what our plans were after that. Build a market, or maybe a theatre? We should build walls around our most exposed towns, especially Lakeshore and Olegton.

What Mike said.

Rowan wrote:

The next big money-making building we discussed was a Black Market, which creates major items, which sell for 15 BP. But that costs 50 BP (25 BP if you build a Market, which costs 48 BP) and to get the best benefit you need to fill up your current district in Lakeshore (which has 10 empty squares at this point) so you can build the Black Market in the next district.

A Theater would probably be a good thing to build this month since it would meet your promise to House Phiarlan, fill 2 squares, and halve the cost of future Brothels, Parks and Taverns in the city (since that would let you build Parks for 2 BP each, it would let you fill in a lot of space easily). It costs 24 BP. Another option, if a more pricey one, is an Arena, which fills 4 squares and halves costs for a Garrison or Theater in the same city, as well as halving the cost of festival edicts. It does cost 40 BP, however.

Walls would probably be a good idea too, so perhaps the best bet would be a theater, walls around a couple of settlements, and a little additional spending on small things like parks, claiming hexes and building roads.

That succeeds, so you gain 1 BP (since you have no Unrest). And then have to pay 2 BP for Consumption. With that, you now have 54 BP for the month.

The first question is how many new hexes you will claim. You can claim up to 3. At least 1 would be a good idea, since it would move you to 51 hexes, allowing for more building and larger armies, but taking all 3 would probably be a good idea. It costs 1 BP to claim each hex, as usual.

Your current Consumption is 2, so taking hexes will increase it up to 5. You can convert up to 2 hexes to farmland (reducing Consumption by 2 per hex converted). You have 1 last plains hex remaining, which would cost 2 BP to convert, and can also convert a hill hex for 4 BP, if you want.

Preferences?

Hexes are 1 BP each. Walls are 8 BP. Parks, after you do a Theater, are 2 BP.

So, using what you have above, you could do:

-3 - Taking 3 hexes
-6 - Converting two hexes to farmlands
-24 - Theater (gives you +2 to Economy and Stability)
-16 - Walls around Lakeshore and Olegton
-4 - 2 Parks (gives you +1 to Loyalty each)
-1 - Party to celebrate our two year anniversary

That would eat up all of your 54 BP.

Alternatively, since you are supposed to be building roads to connect to Drelev, you could do 1 Park and spend the 2 BP that saves you on a road.

Aren't the walls around Lakeshore half price, because we have a garrison (or some other building)?

Good catch. I totally forgot about that. The Garrison does halve the cost for city walls, so you can get the Lakeshore walls for 4 BP.

BTW, the other place you have a Garrison is Varnhold, but since that's down to the south, you probably don't need to worry about building walls there and should focus on places closed to Drelev/Pitax, so Olegton is a better place to build walls.

So what do you want to spend the 4 BP on? I would recommend you actually do one less park (giving you 6 BP to spend) and build 4 hexes of roads (that would cost 5 BP, going through 1 forest hex at 2 BP and 3 plains hexes at 1 BP each), which would not only get you to the Drelev border as promised in your recent trade agreement, but also give you +1 to Economy and Stability.

So your spending would go as follows:

-3: Taking 3 hexes
-6: Converting two hexes to farmlands
-24: Theater (gives you +2 to Economy and Stability)
-12: Walls around Lakeshore and Olegton
-2: 1 Park (gives you +1 to Loyalty)
-5: 4 hexes of roads (+1 to Economy and Stability)
-1: Party to celebrate two-year anniversary

That's 53 BP, leaving 1 BP which you can save for next month's spending.

How does that sound?

Time to wrap up this month. Someone roll me seven d20 rolls please. The first 6 are for the magic item economy and the last for the general economy. Success on anything but a 1, as usual.

Heh! Considering that you're rolling 7 d20s, there's a decent chance of rolling a 1.

You get 40 BP for the five successes and the last d20 roll nets you 18 BP (since you got exactly a 90 total on Economy), so you have 58 BP.

Plus 1 BP left over after all your spending, 6 BP from your trade with Pitax and now another 7 BP from the fey power, which means you'll have a whopping 72 BP to spend next month. Unless the group decides to forego the item benefits from the fey power, in which case the 7 BP becomes 21 BP, or a total of 86 BP!
